January 1, Alarmed Americans React To Biden’s Speech

President Joe Biden’s recent address calling for a ban on “assault weapons” has alarmed conservatives and advocates of gun rights, Fox News reported.

“We need to ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines. And if we can’t ban assault weapons, then we should raise the age to purchase them from 18 to 21,” Biden said on Thursday.

Biden said the U.S. needs to “strengthen background checks; enact safe storage and red flag laws; repeal the immunity that protects gun manufacturers from liability; address the mental health crisis, deepening the trauma of gun violence.”

The speech didn’t sit well with conservatives, who shared their opinions on Twitter.

“Everything Joe Biden proposed today is a threat to the 2nd Amendment but the worst is repealing gun manufacturers’ immunity from liability,” said Robby Starbuck, a Republican congressional candidate.

“If they end up liable for every criminal who misuses a gun, they’ll go bankrupt and there won’t be ANY guns for sale. It’s a total gun ban.”

“This is a communist takeover attempt,” he added in a follow-up tweet.

Spencer Brown, the managing editor of Townhall.com, pointed out that Democrat-led cities deal with high crime rates.

“Biden made the GOP out to be the problem in his remarks on gun violence tonight. But in 2021, a dozen U.S. cities broke their homicide records. All of them are led by Democrats,” Brown tweeted.
