January 1, Democrats Drop Big Money in GOP Primary Elections

ON THIS DAY IN HISTORY…
1785: Benjamin Franklin announces his invention of bifocals.
The Democratic Governors Association (DGA) has sunk millions of dollars into Illinois and Nevada’s GOP primary elections.
“The DGA is wasting no time in educating the public about these Republicans,” said Christina Amestoy, DGA’s senior communications advisor.
“These elected and formerly elected officials want to deceptively retell their histories, and we’re just filling in the gaps.”
The DGA has spent $8.4 million on television ads in Illinois, with more than $4 million in the Chicago market alone. The ads target Aurora Mayor Richard Irvin, the leading Republican in next month’s primary, where he’ll face state Sen. Darren Bailey (R) and several others.
Additionally, Democrats have spent $2.3 million in Nevada against Clark County Sheriff Joe Lombardo (R).
“The DGA’s spending decisions indicate they are very worried about their incumbent governors’ chances as their failed records are being litigated for voters,” said Jesse Hunt, a spokesperson for the Republican Governors Association.
“There isn’t enough money for them to meddle in the nearly dozen states where Democrats are in danger of losing their hold on the governor’s office.”
