January 1, Pentagon warns another terrorist attack in Kabul is ‘likely’
Officials from the Pentagon warned President Biden and Vice President Harris that another terrorist attack in Kabul, Afghanistan is “likely” before the US completes its withdrawal in the coming days.
“They advised the president and vice president that another terror attack in Kabul is likely, but that they are taking maximum force protection measures at the Kabul airport,” White House press secretary Jen Psaki said.
The warning from Pentagon and national security officials comes one day after a suicide bombing that claimed the lives of more than 170 people, including 13 US service members.
“The next few days of this mission will be the most dangerous period to date,” Psaki said.
