January 1, Script didn’t call for Alec Baldwin to fire gun, lawsuit says

A lawsuit filed against Alec Baldwin claims that the script didn’t call for him to fire the gun when he fatally shot cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.

The suit, filed by script supervisor Mamie Mitchell, claims that the script called for three close-up camera shots of the actor — one of his eyes, another of a bloodstain on his shoulder, and a third of his torso “as he reached his hand down to the holster and removed the gun.”

“There was nothing in the script about the gun being discharged by defendant Baldwin or by any other person,” the suit reads.

Mitchell’s lawyer, Gloria Allred, called Baldwin and the film’s producers “reckless,” accusing them of failing to follow safety protocols.

Baldwin “chose to play Russian roulette when he fired a gun without checking it and without having the armorer do so in his presence,” Allred said.

Given the wide span of neglected safety procedures, the incident was “a case where injury or death was much more than just a possibility — it was a likely result,” Allred said.

Mitchell, who called 911 after the shooting, was standing less than four feet away when Baldwin discharged the weapon.

“I relive the shooting and the sound of the explosion from the gun over and over again,” Mitchell previously told the press.

Mitchell’s lawsuit is the second filing over the incident after the film’s head electrician filed one earlier this month.
