January 1, Greene Qualified for Reelection, Judge Rules

A judge has found that Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) can seek reelection, ruling against a group of five voters who had argued she was ineligible due to having “engaged in insurrection.”

The lawsuit claimed that Greene’s role in the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot violated the 14th Amendment, making her ineligible for reelection.

James Bopp, Greene’s lawyer, argued that his client had utilized her First Amendment right to free speech.

The lawsuit served as an attempt “to deny the right to vote to the thousands of people living in the 14th District of Georgia by removing Greene from the ballot,” Bopp said.

The decision on whether Greene can run for reelection ultimately falls to Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger (R).
