January 1, Dems Raise $12M After SCOTUS Leak

Democrats have raised at least $12 million from small donors amid a fundraising push after the leaked Supreme Court draft opinion showed that the justices are poised to overturn Roe v. Wade.

Democratic lawmakers did not waste any time soliciting donations after the SCOTUS leak, sending voters emails with urgent requests for funds.

“The only way to protect reproductive rights is to build on our Democratic majorities in the House and Senate and DEFEAT every last anti-choice Republican who made this happen,” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s campaign wrote.

“I need a ONCE-IN-A-LIFETIME response — 50,000 gifts in the next 24 hours — to put us in a position to win this fight and protect our fundamental rights. Are you with me?”

Other Democrats that sent out similar fundraising emails in the immediate aftermath include Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, Sens. Mark Warner (VA), Kirsten Gillibrand (NY), Alex Padilla (CA), and Mark Kelly (AZ).

The push for donations seemed to have worked, as ActBlue, a small-donor fundraising platform that supports Democratic candidates, announced that donors had contributed $12 million in less than 48 hours.

“Donors gave $12 million through ActBlue from the time of the SCOTUS leak thru midnight [Wednesday], giving to groups that are organizing right now—abortion funds, reproductive justice groups both big and small, [and] candidates who will fight GOP efforts to restrict abortion access,” ActBlue wrote on Twitter.
