January 1, Almost half of Democrats want a candidate other than Biden to run in 2024

A new poll shows that 44 percent of Democrats think their party will have a better chance of winning in 2024 if someone other than President Joe Biden is the candidate.
Forty-four percent of Democrats and Democrat-leaning Independents want another candidate while 36 percent want to keep Biden and 20 percent are unsure.
Across the aisle, 50 percent of Republicans and Republican-leaning Independents believe former President Donald Trump is their best chance of regaining the White House. Thirty-five percent want someone else, and 14 percent are unsure.
The new Marist poll data comes as Biden’s approval numbers continue to fall, with 49 percent saying they disapprove of Biden’s job as president.
Biden claimed he doesn’t put much stock in the poll numbers.
“By the way, look, the polls are going to go up and down and up and down. They were higher early. Then they got medium. Then back up, and now they’re low,” Biden told reporters at the G20 Summit in Rome. “Look at every other president. The same thing has happened, but that’s not why I ran. I didn’t run to determine how well I’m going to do in the polls.”
