January 1, White House press secretary Jen Psaki tests positive for COVID-19
White House press secretary Jen Psaki announced that she tested positive for a breakthrough COVID-19 case on Sunday, becoming the most senior member of the Biden administration to contract the virus since his inauguration.
Psaki, who last saw President Joe Biden on Tuesday, said she’s been experiencing mild symptoms. She hasn’t been around other senior members of the administration since Wednesday, Psaki said.
On Thursday, Psaki recused herself traveling with Biden to the G20 summit in Rome because of a family emergency. Then, on Sunday, Psaki said family members tested positive for COVID-19 this week.
“Since then, I have quarantined and tested negative (via PCR) for COVID on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday,” Psaki wrote in a statement. “However, today, I tested positive for COVID.”
Psaki added that she will quarantine for ten days and won’t go back to the White House until her test results are negative.
