January 1, Burglar Caught Red-Handed Stealing Christmas Presents From Robert De Niro’s Home

Well, here’s one person who’s getting coal in their stocking this year.

New York City police say they caught a woman trying to steal presents from underneath Robert De Niro’s Christmas tree.

Shanice Aviles, 30, allegedly broke into De Niro’s townhouse on the Upper East Side while the actor and his family were sleeping upstairs. She was spotted entering the home at 2:45 a.m., police said.

The NYPD said patrol officers noticed Aviles, a known repeat offender, walking into the basement door of the home. When she didn’t reemerge, they entered the home and found Aviles taking presents from under the Christmas tree.

De Niro, 79, heard the commotion and came downstairs in his dressing gown.

Police say Aviles was unaware that the home belonged to the two-time Academy Award winner, New York Daily News reported.

Aviles was wanted in connection with six other burglaries, ABC News reported. She has 26 prior arrests, including 16 for burglaries and petit larcenies.

She was out on bail at the time of the arrest, after allegedly stealing hundreds of dollars from an area church.
