January 1, ‘Defund the Police’ Movement Backfires in Seattle

ON THIS DAY IN HISTORY…
1963: Mickey Mantle signs a contract worth $100,000 with the New York Yankees.
Amid rampant anti-police rhetoric in Seattle, crime rates have skyrocketed, causing city officials to reverse course and push for increased law enforcement.
Last week, Mayor Bruce Harrell called for additional officers to address rising crime in the city.
“We need immediate action and innovation to respond to our public safety issues,” Harrell said. “Seattle saw a 4 percent rise in reported crime last year… We need more officers to address our staffing crisis.”
As the mayor noted, the city saw a 4 percent overall increase in crime. Homicides increased by 24 percent and motor vehicle thefts grew by 30 percent within the last year.
Despite the mayor’s push for an increased police presence, some Seattle residents aren’t getting their hopes up just yet.
“Right now, I don’t have a lot of hope,” Seattle resident Victoria Beach told Fox & Friends First. “I think the mayor is on the right track, but Seattle is in a huge crisis. Our city has been destroyed, and we’re not going to get it back anytime soon.”
Beach said the city is currently a “free for all.”
“If you want to commit a crime, move to Seattle,” she said.
Other residents think it might be too little too late.
“The crime is just getting worse and worse,” said Eli Hoshor, another Seattle resident. “There’s a homeless encampment that’s right next to my son’s school that’s been there for over a year, and it’s doubled and tripled in size.”
“It’s ridiculous that that’s even possible,” Hoshor added.
Meanwhile, local reporter Jonathan Choe blamed the “Defund the Police” movement as the reason for the alarming uptick in crime, calling it a “failed social experiment.”
“They’re still standing by this and doubling down on it,” Choe told Fox News host Todd Piro.
“The mayor laid out the vision and the hope for what he wants going forward, but he’s very sparse on details and an exact plan to execute this and what that would actually look like,” he said.

Crime occurring in Seattle is not news and will not stop anytime soon. Because even if they would get officers stupid enough to take these jobs nothing would change except they would be prosecuting the officers instead of the criminals. I have one idea. These politicians who defund the police and crime skyrockets should be prosecuted for aiding and abetting. Now that makes sense since their oath of office they take requires them to uphold the laws on the books.
AMEN TO THAT ROBERT ………..
Precisely.
What did those dumb spits think would happen?
Seattle got exactly what they voted for,, what level of fool would think that cutting police would lower the crime rate,? Totally defies logic and common sense, and no officer in their right mind would go work for that Administration.
stupid sheeople deserve stupid gov’t. The property owners will (again) pay for this. IT never stops…. till the communist are no more….
As a former law enforcement officer, I say you’d have to be nuts to go work for a woke department in a woke city. Plenty of great conservative departments and cities to work for instead. And yup, Seattle got exactly what they asked for.
Typical liberal Mayor. Backwards solution. As other here have stated, more officers on the street may increase the number of arrests, but offenders will still be back on the streets a few hours later.
Thank you Seattle, Spokane and other non-woke cities were able to hire well trained police officers from your city and are happy to have them.
Tough sh*t Seattle, you voted for it, so stop your damn whining!!!!
