January 1, Former NYPD officer sentenced to 4 years in murder-for-hire plot
A former New York Police Department officer Valerie Cincinelli received a four-year prison sentence for obstruction in an alleged murder-for-hire plot to kill her estranged husband and her boyfriend’s teenaged daughter.
“This conduct is particularly egregious considering Cincinelli was a uniformed NYPD officer at the time of her crimes,” wrote Assistant U.S. Attorney Catherine Mirabile in a sentencing memo.
Prosecutors agreed to drop the two murder-for-hire charges against Cincinelli in exchange for her guilty plea, which she entered on April 16. Cincinelli pled guilty to one count of obstruction for deleting incriminating evidence on her phone.
The then-officer allegedly paid John Dirubba, her then-boyfriend, to hire a hitman to kill her estranged husband, Isaiah Carvalha Jr., amid a custody battle.
She later included Dirubba’s 13-year-old daughter as a target “out of sheer jealously and personal hatred,” prosecutors said.
