January 1, Former Trump Adviser Indicted

Peter Navarro, a former adviser to the Trump White House, has been indicted by a federal grand jury on two counts of criminal contempt of Congress for failing to comply with subpoenas for the House Jan. 6 select committee.

According to the indictment, the counts stem from Navarro’s failing to produce documents and testimony in the committee’s investigation.

Navarro made his first court appearance on Friday afternoon, representing himself. He reportedly accused the Justice Department of “prosecutorial misconduct” for arresting him at an airport on his way to a television appearance in Nashville.

“That committee is a sham committee that doesn’t have the power to issue subpoenas,” Navarro told the judge.

“They’ve basically weaponized their investigatory powers in a way which violates separation of powers.”
