January 1, Graham: SCOTUS Pick Shows the ‘Radical Left’ Won

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) said President Joe Biden’s Supreme Court pick shows that the “radical left” has won.

Biden announced that he’d nominated Ketanji Brown Jackson to replace retiring Justice Stephen Breyer. Graham, a member of the Judiciary Committee, had pushed for Biden to pick South Carolina district court Judge J. Michelle Childs.

Graham said that Jackson’s nomination “means the radical Left has won President Biden over yet again.”

Graham and Biden ally Rep. James Clyburn (D-S.C.) urged Biden to pick Childs, who previously attended public colleges, including the University of South Florida and the University of South Carolina, unlike the usual list of Ivy League institutions.

“The Harvard-Yale train to the Supreme Court continues to run unabated,” Graham said.

Childs faced criticism from progressives, in part for sentencing a man to 12 years in prison for a nonviolent marijuana charge in 2009.

“The attacks by the Left on Judge Childs from South Carolina apparently worked,” Graham said.

“I expect a respectful but interesting hearing in the Senate Judiciary Committee,” he added.

Jackson has already been through the confirmation process twice in the Senate. Last spring, she was confirmed to the D.C. Circuit Court in a 53-44 vote.

Three Republicans voted to confirm Jackson last year, including Graham.
