January 1, Group of Midwestern governors agree to create electric vehicle charging network

The governors of Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, and Wisconsin agreed to join forces on a new network for charging electric vehicles.

The new bipartisan plan, REV Midwest, aims to improve the Midwest’s economy while simultaneously reducing toxic emissions from vehicles. Additionally, it will create jobs, improve public health, and help the region compete for funding.

“Today’s REV Midwest partnership is a bipartisan effort to build the future of mobility and electrification and connect our communities,” Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer said. “Our partnership will enable the Midwest to lead on electric vehicle adoption, reduce carbon emissions, spur innovation, and create good-paying jobs.”

The states vow to “work together to enable an equitable transition to electric vehicles for all with specific consideration for communities that are historically disadvantaged.”
