January 1, Hunter Biden’s Ex-Wife Opens Up About Marriage

Kathleen Buhle, Hunter Biden’s ex-wife, shares details about her ex-husband’s drug addiction, infidelity — including an affair with her sister-in-law — and the challenges of integrating into the Biden family in an upcoming memoir.

Buhle, 53, shares an intimate look at her marriage with President Joe Biden’s son in her upcoming book If We Break. Excerpts of her book were published on Wednesday by People magazine.

In her book, Buhle says she and Hunter separated shortly after Beau Biden succumbed to brain cancer in 2015 — when she discovered a crack pipe in their ashtray.

“I found a credit card charge for $10,000 at a hot tub store in Los Angeles,” Buhle writes.

“I found hundreds at liquor stores and strip clubs. The whole time, he told me he was healthy and sober — and I was crazy. I continually told him that I was the one person actually trying to get him sober. It became my own kind of addiction. I didn’t want to admit, to myself or anyone else, how unhealthy our relationship had become, so my struggle was just one more secret.”

Buhle also describes finding out about Hunter’s affair with Hallie Biden, Beau’s widow, in Nov. 2016, when her daughters asked the family’s therapist to break the news.

“I was shocked, but not heartbroken. Heartbreak has already flatted my self-esteem that past year,” Buhle writes. She says her daughters found out about the relationship when searching through texts on Hunter’s phone.

Buhle reclaimed her identity in 2019 when she legally switched back to her maiden name.

“Changing my name had been as frightening as anything I’d ever done before. I was no longer a Biden. I’d handed in my crown and shield because I no longer needed them. Maybe I never had,” Buhle writes.
