January 1, Kellogg’s Strike Ends After Workers Agree to New Contract

Kellogg’s employees have agreed to a new labor contract, ending a strike that began on October 5.

The contract extends to nearly 1,400 workers at the company’s four cereal plants in Michigan, Nebraska, Pennsylvania, and Tennessee.

“We are pleased that we have reached an agreement that brings our cereal employees back to work,” Kellogg’s CEO Steve Cahillane said in a statement.

The company said the new contract provides immediate, sweeping wage increases and enhanced benefits. It also provides an accelerated, defined path to top-tier wages, a major sticking point for workers, and benefits for transitional employees.

Union leaders were pleased with the contract.

“This agreement makes gains and does not include any concessions,” BCTGM International Union President Anthony Shelton said in a prepared statement.

Workers will return to their posts on the Monday after Christmas.
