January 1, Nurse fired for posting picture of baby with birth defect on Instagram

A Florida hospital fired a nurse for violating a patient’s privacy.

Jackson Memorial Hospital fired neo-natal intensive care nurse Sierra Samuels after she was under investigation for weeks, officials said.

Samuels posted pictures of a baby born with a condition where the intestines are outside of the body.

“In addition to the general HIPPA violation that we’d be looking at here, there’s a sense of decency about the rights and expectations we all have in our likenesses and our images,” Miami attorney David Weinstein told a local outlet.
