January 1, Pelosi to Boebert, Greene: ‘Just Shut Up’

When asked about Reps. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) and Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) heckling President Joe Biden during his State of the Union address, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi had a blunt response: “I think they should just shut up.”

During a press conference in the Capitol, a reporter asked Pelosi if she thinks the GOP lawmakers should be formally censured for their breaches of decorum.

“Let me just say this. I agree with what Sen. Lindsey Graham said: ‘Shut up.’ That’s what he said to them. I think they should just shut up,” Pelosi said.

Pelosi was referencing the apparent reaction from Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) as Boebert interrupted Biden’s speech. A video clip from the event appears to show Graham saying, “shut up.”

During his speech on Tuesday night, Boebert drew gasps from fellow lawmakers when she yelled out that Biden put U.S. service members in coffins — “13 of them” — referring to those who died in a bomb attack in Kabul, Afghanistan this past summer.

Boebert has remained defiant since her outburst, saying she “couldn’t stay silent.”

While Republicans have largely refrained from criticizing Boebert, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) said he thinks “civil behavior is a good idea in Congress.”

“We act that way in the Senate. I don’t normally give the House advice. But it seems to me, a respectful response to the State of the Union would be the norm,” McConnell said during a Fox News Radio interview.
