January 1, $800K Fixer-Upper Comes With a Person in the Basement
Five bedrooms, four bathrooms — and a person in the basement?
A home up for sale in Fairfax, Virginia, gained mass attention for a particularly unique detail listed in the purchase price. The dwelling is listed for a modest $800,000 in an area where purchase prices often exceed $1 million.
“Cash offers only,” the listing reads. “As is only with acknowledgement that home will convey with a person(s) living in lower level with no lease in place.”
Zinta K. Rodgers-Rickert, the listing agent, says the bonus tenant is someone who “weaseled her way in.” She’s lived there for roughly three years and may or may not have another person living with her.
The basement dwellers don’t have a lease or pay any rent. So why are they there?
According to Rodgers-Rickert, the current owners simply aren’t “the type that can financially afford or emotionally deal with the eviction.”
The agent says there’s already an offer on the house, and two others in the pipeline.
