January 1, George Floyd’s killer pleads not guilty to federal charges of excessive force against teen

The disgraced former Minnesota police officer convicted of murder in the death of George Floyd pleaded not guilty to charges in a federal case related to the use of unreasonable force on a 14-year-old boy in 2017.

According to court documents, Derek Chauvin, currently serving 22 1/2 years for Floyd’s murder, allegedly hit the boy in the head with his flashlight, choked him, and held his knees against the boy’s neck for 17 minutes. Police body camera footage shows the teen lose consciousness.

Chauvin stands accused of depriving the boy’s “constitutional right to be free from the use of unreasonable force by a police officer.”

On Tuesday, Chauvin and three other former Minneapolis police officers were arraigned in federal court via video conference on charges of violating Floyd’s civil rights.
